Setting Method

Engagement rings can feature diamonds set in a variety of different setting methods. The most popular diamond setting methods are as follows:

4-Prong/6-Prong/8-Prong
This is the most traditional type of setting where four, six, or eight prongs perfectly secure the center diamond in an engagement ring. The choice between 4-, 6-, and 8-prongs is purely aesthetic, the strength and security of your center diamond setting is not affected by how many prongs hold the diamond
Bezel
A bezel setting features a diamond completely embraced by metal. This is a wonderful (and safe!) choice for people with more active lifestyles.
Channel
Used for a variety of diamond shapes, this setting features a line of diamonds set within metal on either side with no space in between them.
Pave
This setting features smaller round stones set closely together to minimize the appearance of metal and maximize the sparkle of the jewelry.
Micro-pave
One of the most labor-intensive settings, a micro-pave setting is when smaller round diamonds are pave-set by our jewelers under a microscope
Mutual-Prong
Also known as “common prong”, this setting features diamonds that are positioned together by prongs mutually embracing multiple stones simultaneously.
Trellis
These settings feature diamonds that are secured within intertwining metal prongs creating a stunning look which allows an optimal amount of light to enter each diamond.
Bar
Diamonds in this type of setting are secured within metal on either side, similar to a channel-setting, and have metal “bars” in between each one.
