Precious metals, diamonds, and gems are often sourced from some of the poorest, most remote countries in the world, where social and environmental abuse often go unchecked. Ring Shop has taken a stand against this because we believe the most beautiful jewelry is both socially responsible and environmentally sustainable. At Ring Shop, we believe in providing gorgeous, conflict-free diamonds at an affordable price, but not at the price of hurting people or our environment. Ring Shop has joined other forward-thinking companies such as Johnson Matthey and Tiffany in a global effort to acquire platinum, silver, and gold only from mining operators who have shown dedication to sustainable and responsible mining. We purchase metals we know to have come from mines that demonstrate high standards of social and environmental performance: no child labor, high level of Environmental Stewardship and excellent safety records. Ring Shop diamonds are purchased exclusively from diamond dealers able to demonstrate adherence to the Kimberly Process - a joint government, industry and civil society initiative to stem the flow of conflict diamonds (rough diamonds used by rebel movements to finance wars against legitimate governments). The trade in these illicit stones has fueled decades of devastating conflicts in countries such as Angola, Cote d'Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sierra Leone. The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme imposes extensive requirements on its members to enable them to certify shipments of rough diamonds as "conflict-free". As of December 2009, the KP has 49 members, representing 75 countries. At Ring Shop, we're proud to offer you beauty with a conscience.
